Take Care Of Your Heart By Means Of The Zone Diet

An American biochemist, Barry Sears, put together the heart-healthy diet known as the Zone diet so he could avoid the fate of his family members with heart problems. The Zone diet is made up of a carb, protein and fat ratio that is to be strictly observed each day. By eating a consistent diet of 30 percent fats, 40 percent carbs and 30 percent protein, the ideal Zone nutritional ratio is consumed. Keeping this balance is what keeps the blood sugar at a constant level and the hormones balanced. Weight loss is a side effect of the nutritional balance.

Losing weight can be made much more difficult if a low fat diet is regularly consumed. With low fat comes more insulin, which leads to more fat rather than less. This is one of the reasons for the overall failure of the low-fat diet. Another reason for its failure is that a diet low in fat is unsatisfying, leading to a larger appetite and more calories being eaten. Monounsaturated fats are an important part of staying on the Zone diet. Eating these fats keeps the body able to burn fat. Unless these fats are eaten, insulin levels will be high and the body will not be able to burn fat.

There are a few simple techniques to decide the correct amount which is enough of every food type. Protein the same size as the palm is one serving. Monounsaturated fats should be eaten until you no longer have feelings of being hungry. If you are eating the right amount of carbohydrates, your mind will feel clear. The goal is to eat only these amounts and to avoid overeating with more than is necessary. The quantity of starchy vegetables is not given these limitations.

The Zone diet also calls for the proper intake of omega fatty acids. The correct amount of omega-3 and 6 acids every day is important to keep the heart and mind healthy. The diet requires some supplements of fish oil or other omega acids. Fish oil supplements were originated by Dr. Sears, who developed the mixture of the correct fatty acid doses.

Research on the Zone have proven it to be an effective weight loss diet. The period of adjustment for new Zone dieters is shorter than the adjustment experienced with different diets. The initial side effect of fatigue is of short duration. The long term maintenance of the Zone diet results in an efficient body. With steady insulin levels, energy level remains constant, as do moods. Additionally, staying on the Zone diet also positively effects mental agility. Staying in the ratio and receiving those benefits is what Dr. Sears calls “the zone”, which is the state that gave the diet its name.
